Puppies
are raised here with great care and love. They are born and kept
in a whelping box in our home. The box is lined with blankets
that are changed several times a day. This keeps the pups clean
and helps prevent disease.
The moms are fed a formula high in fat and protein along with
puppy food to ensure that they are producing plenty of rich milk
that will help the pups grow big and strong. The dams are also
kept on a regular exercise routine and allowed to swim and play
to ensure as little stress on mom as possible.
When the pups reach about 18-20 days, they are started on puppy
food. They seem to take to it right away and really start to grow.
At four weeks of age, they are introduced to the outside elements;
fresh air, fresh grass and a little more room for some serious
playing.
They are moved to a two foot high portable enclosure that is moved
several times a day to ensure the area always stays fresh. They
have plenty of room to explore and a portable dog house filled
with fresh cedar chips to keep them warm, which is usually not
a problem in Texas.
From five to seven weeks they are introduced to water, birds and
guns. They also have great play time with the my wife and son,
who can hardly stand to let their feet touch the ground. Pups
leave here for their new homes well socialized, healthy, strong
and eager to learn.
